Hi everybody, hope you’re having a great week! In today’s email:
New music toys for geeks
I love Holden Evening Prayer tunes(!)

New toys
I’m geeking out because I got a new sheet music toy this week:
If you’ve not seen one of these doo-dads, they’re super slick. It’s a foot pedal that is paired via Bluetooth to my iPad. So now I don’t have to try and frantically turn pages while I play guitar, or have someone camp out next to me to turn pages.
I gave it a go a few weeks ago at church for our Holden Evening Prayer service. It worked like a champ. Though I had a bit of a panicked thought with our pianist/organist before the service started: “What if our pedals interfere with each other and move the pages forward for the other person?” A quick test of that theory proved it to be false - phewfta! If you’re interested in checking it out, the pedal goes for about 100 bucks on Amazon.
Holden Evening Prayer tunes rule
Last year I was a vocalist for our church’s Holden Evening Prayer service, which runs on Wednesdays over Lent. I’ve come to REALLY love those tunes, and so this year I’m singing and playing guitar as well. If you’ve not heard that service’s music and are curious, here’s the version I learned my parts off of (this is not my church’s recording):
Our musical ensemble consists of vocalists, piano, guitar, oboe and violin. I feel spoiled in that my spot up front is directly sandwiched between the piano, oboe and violin. That, combined with being directly in line of the congregation’s vocals, is a real treat for the ears!
Goodness of God performance
If you saw my previous posts, you know I’m a huge fan of the Goodness of God song. I sang it last year during Lent as a special music piece with Sweet Surrender, and got to do it last week with another musician. It went great outside of my duet partner suffering from what I think they call “mike droop” - where you’re just doing your singing thing, and suddenly the mike stand slowwwwly slides down. Fortunately, our pianist came to the rescue as a human mic stand and everything turned out fine.
Do you have a favorite worship tune?
Have a great weekend!
