Coming out of my Pour gig, I’ve been aggressively contacting venues in the Twin Cities to keep the live gig momentum going. Unfortunately, I’m not getting a lot of returned messages/calls. I get it. I understand that many of the folks who work these establishments are focused on running their business. Music could be on their nice-to-have list more than an essential offering, and they’re probably bombarded with messages and calls from people like me. But who has time to listen to SoundCloud samples from 100 hungry musicians?
In the meantime, I’ve reached out to friends/family/coworker circles to inquire about doing private gigs…and I got one! I’ll be playing next month on a lakeside property while a group of folks wine/dine/chat. I think it will again my favorite type of “vibe” - that is, when people may kinda/sorta of be tuned in to my music, but they’re focused on mingling amongst each other (and not staring at me). Another thing I like about these environments is there’s no pressure for me to come up with any between-song witty banter. As I’ve said before, I think of it as, “It’s a rehearsal that other people happen to be listening in on.”
One thing I learned from starting my cybersecurity business is that if you do a great job at something, people will talk about it with friends, family and coworkers. So I’m hoping the folks at this private party will enjoy my music…and then spread the word!
I’m excited to report back to you how the gig went. In the meantime, if you know of a place where my music would be a fit:
Thanks!
Brian
